Here at Conniff Cattle, we have a strong emphasis on the health of our herd. Health care matters for a variety of reasons including keeping costs down, producing healthy stock, and for the welfare of the animals.
- At birth calves are weighed with a scale and tagged within 24 hours and Inforce 3 Nasal vaccine is administered. Also a tissue sample is extracted for genomic-enhanced EPD’s, parent verification and BVD-PI testing.
- Our herd is BVD-PI FREE
- At four to six months calves are given Bovi-Shield Gold FP5, 8-way with H. Somnus, and a booster at weaning plus Pasturella and worming meds. Then all cattle receive an annual booster of Bovi-Shield Gold FP5 with VL5, 8 way w/ Somnus and injectable Dectomax or pour on for worming.
- Calves are weaned between 150 to 210 days. They are weighed and those are weights sent to AAA.
- At four to ten months all females are officially CHV
- Dectomax pour on or injectable is administered at least annually or biannually for all cattle. Plus sprayed with Permethrin as needed
- Yearling performance includes weight, scrotal measurement, pelvic circumference is taken between 345 to 385 days of age. Any not meeting performance or disposition criteria are sold as feeders.
- Bulls at 12-14 months have Breeding Soundness Exams and Trich testing
