We are breeding and maintaining seed stock and commercial cattle at two very different locations. The Las Cruces address is the origin and home of our seed stock production and home of registered Black Angus and Shorthorn cattle. Rincon, NM is near our previously owned desert ranch that is a commercial cow calf operation owned and run by Casey and Chancie Roberts. Registered bulls and cows of the breeds mentioned are located and maintained at both locations. Most of the calves at desert ranch are sold as stockers or feeders. Some ranch steers are sold at market price to customers to finish, slaughter, and process for their home.

Our goal is to produce functional cattle for our southwest environment. They must be easy calving and efficient in maintaining body condition while converting forage and lower cost foodstuffs, in our case that is most often chili byproduct and waste. The waste is turned into pounds and energy. We often joke that our ranch cattle have a high mineral intake of rocks and sand. Many of the ranch bulls and cows were started at the farm and moved to the desert to breed, maintain body condition, and raise calves born without assistance year after year. We often do not see a new calf until it is one to two weeks of age. If they ever needed assistance they would simply be out of luck. Special heifers are maintained as replacements for us and/or sold to others.

Every year we have very good prospects for future herd sires as well as some two and three year old herd sires at both locations. Also we often have registered females for sale as open and bred heifers, bred cows, as well as pairs and three in ones. All EPDs and performance data can be accessed by clicking the registration number next to the animal picture.   AI sires make up a large part of our registered production and will be listed under the breed categories. Sires are selected for moderate frame, muscle and EPDs. Traits receiving primary attention are: CED, BW, MA, CEM, DOC, $B and a positive $EN.
